About Motion Queens

Motion Queens is a celebration and recognition of women in street dance, a field where men often dominate and receive the most awards and recognition. The Motion Queens blog is meant to be a resource for women who are interested in street dance, dance techniques, events and classes.

The Motion Queens blog was created by Jaynese Poole in September of 2012 as part of her senior thesis project for LABP (Los Angeles Big Picture High School). LABP is a project-based school that allows students to follow their passions by participating in internships and interviews to complete their high school education.

Jaynese is a student with a deep passion for street dance. She started off as a self-taught dancer, and for the past several years has been taking hip-hop dance classes. She wanted to create spaces for women of all ages to come together to dance and battle because the majority of dancers at dance events were male.
